League of Legends is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, MOBA for short, developed by Riot Games, first released in 2009. It's a team-based strategy game where two teams of five players battle to destroy the opposing team's Nexus, the core building in their base. The primary map, Summoner's Rift, features three lanes, a jungle area filled with neutral monsters, and objectives like towers, dragons, and Baron Nashor. Players choose from over 160 unique champions, each with distinct abilities and roles such as Top, Jungle, Mid, ADC (Attack Damage Carry), and Support.
Each match is a blend of strategy, teamwork, and individual skill. Players earn gold and experience by defeating enemies and taking objectives, allowing them to buy items and grow stronger throughout the game. Understanding when to fight, when to take objectives, and how to coordinate as a team is key to winning. Game modes vary from standard 5v5 matches to quicker, casual formats like ARAM, URF, and my personal favorite, Arena. The game also features a ranked ladder system for competitive players seeking to climb divisions from Iron to Challenger.
Beyond gameplay, League of Legends has a vast fantasy universe set in Runeterra, home to regions like Demacia, Noxus, and Ionia. Each champion has a rich backstory, many of which connect to broader narratives explored through cinematics, comics, and shows. Riot has expanded the world with projects like the animated series Arcane, which explores the origins of characters like Jinx and Vi. League is also a cornerstone of global esports, with leagues worldwide and an annual World Championship watched by millions.
This site will focus on three of my favorite champions, those being Wukong, The Monkey King who hails from the island nation of Ionia, Khazix, the VoidReaver who hails from the all consuming eternal darkness that is the Void, and finally Qiyana, The Empress of the Elements who hails from the magical nation of Ixtal.
